Staatspreis: Denkwerkstätte in Hittisau, Vorarlberg von Georg Bechter Architektur + Design (Hittisau) und Bauherr Georg Bechter
Der alte Kuhstall wurde bis auf die Primärstruktur abgetragen und verkleidet mit diagonalen Holzlatten zu einer Leuchtenmanufaktur mit Büro umgebaut. Zum kreativen Energiekonzept gehört unter anderem auch ein Eisspeicher, der in einer ehemaligen Jauchegrube installiert wurde.

Urlaub im Knast - Hotelumbau in Cornwall von Twelve Architects

Die Umnutzung leerstehender Gebäude ist grundsätzlich eine gute Sache. Allerdings sollte dabei nicht aus dem Blick geraten, dass ein Bauwerk neben seiner Architektur immer auch eine spezifische Geschichte mitbringt, die einen sensiblen Umgang verdient. Denn die Vergangenheit kann zuweilen finster sein, beispielsweise im Fall eines ehemaligen Gefängnisses in Bodmin in der englischen Grafschaft Cornwall. Dass an diesem Ort nun ausgerechnet ein Viersterne-Boutiquehotel Gäste in ehemaligen Zellenräumen empfängt, mutet dann doch ziemlich makaber an.
